The Wonthaggi Club was originally founded in 1911 by the gentlemen of the town during the prosperous coal mining days.
The Club provided an alternative from the heavily unionized Coal Miners Workers Union, which operated most of the social gatherings during the town’s start up. This included the Wonthaggi Union Theatre and Workmen’s Club.
The Wonthaggi Club from its beginnings encouraged social interaction amongst its members via the provision of a facility specialising in beverages, billiards, library and card playing.
The Club has prospered since under the guidance of its prominent, stable and educated Boards. After many external and internal changes to its centrally located premises at 16 McBride Ave, Wonthaggi, it now boasts modern and broad hospitality facilities, servicing a developing tourism and agriculture region.
In 2015 under a mutual agreement, the Wonthaggi Golf Club leased their clubhouse facility to the Wonthaggi Club. The Wonthaggi Club, together with the Wonthaggi Golf Club are working towards providing their members, guests and visitors with a premium entertainment and social venue, ‘The Clubhouse’.
Mission Statement
To continue providing a quality entertainment experience for the Clubs members, guests and visitors in the most productive manner while maintaining the highest possible venue and service standards. To be abreast of new technologies and changes, which can improve the entertainment experience and the productivity of its delivery. To duly represent the interests of its membership generally, not individually and utilise its significant influence where necessary to create a better local community environment.
